VMware VCSA 6.5 Failed To Start Network Service

This will be a short post but I thought I’d explain how to fix this issue as I experienced this on a client’s site. They had storage issues and this affected the VMware VCSA machine. We had tried everything such as confirming the NIC is on the correct network, re-adding the network adapter, restarting the VM with no luck. I thought this could be storage/file system related as the storage had been pulled from the VM without warning while the VM was running. These are the errors that were being received:

VMware VCSA 6.5 Failed Start Network Service Error - VMware VCSA 6.5 Failed To Start Network Service VMware VCSA 6.5 Failed Start Network Service Enter Root Password - VMware VCSA 6.5 Failed To Start Network Service

I found an article relating to this issue and it recommended performing a check on /dev/log_vg/log as the file could be corrupted. I completed this check by running the following command:

You will need to accept the changes that are recommended by this command for it to apply the fixes. You will now need to reboot the VM. This successfully resolved the network service issue once the VM was started.
