VMware Horizon View 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 Upgrade

This is a very simple post on how to upgrade VMware Horizon View to the latest version from version 7.0.0 – You will need to initially download the upgrade from here https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?downloadGroup=VIEW-701-STD&productId=577&rPId=11666

I have a simple deployment so only needed the VMware Horizon View 7.0.1 Connection Server and the Horizon View Agent. When you have downloaded the file, login to your Horizon View Connection server and run the VMware-viewconnectionserver-x86_64-7.0.1-3988955.exe – As you can see VMware have made this a very simple upgrade.

VMware Horizon View 7.0.1 Next - VMware Horizon View 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 Upgrade

VMware Horizon View 7.0.1 Agree to License Terms - VMware Horizon View 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 Upgrade

VMware Horizon View 7.0.1 Directory - VMware Horizon View 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 Upgrade

VMware Horizon View 7.0.1 Installing - VMware Horizon View 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 Upgrade

VMware Horizon View 7.0.1 Complete - VMware Horizon View 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 Upgrade

At this point I would recommend restarting your server as per the below message that you are prompted with after the installation –

VMware Horizon View 7.0.1 Restart Required - VMware Horizon View 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 Upgrade

When I restarted my machine I actually had issues with the VMware Horizon View 7 web console. This was again SSL related. I was receiving errors in the VMware Horizon View Logs directory – C:\ProgramData\VMware\VDM\logs

KeyVault CertOpenStore FAILED for store=VMware Horizon View Certificates, error=19 (The media is write protected.)

Unable to open certificate store VMware Horizon View Certificates: 19 (The media is write protected.)

[BrokerSSLSocketFactory] Failed to create Broker Certificate Failed to get thumbprints: Add self-signed certificate: Unable to open certificate store VMware Horizon View Certificates: 19 (The media is write protected.) – ErrorCode = 19

[JMXServer] Could not instantiate the Ice Server Mbean

Basically the security server that is built in to the Connection Server when using this simple deployment could not load the SSL certificates that I had installed for VMware Horizon View. You can see how I resolved it here.

If everything is successful you will see the below in the console! You should now continue to upgrade the VMware Horizon View agent on your session hosts/VDI desktop’s.

Again this is a very simple process as per the original setup.

VMware Horizon View 7.0.1 Agent Next - VMware Horizon View 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 UpgradeVMware Horizon View 7.0.1 Agent Agree to License Terms - VMware Horizon View 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 UpgradeVMware Horizon View 7.0.1 Agent Protocol - VMware Horizon View 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 Upgrade VMware Horizon View 7.0.1 Agent Features - VMware Horizon View 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 UpgradeVMware Horizon View 7.0.1 Agent Directory - VMware Horizon View 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 Upgrade VMware Horizon View 7.0.1 Agent Installing - VMware Horizon View 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 Upgrade VMware Horizon View 7.0.1 Agent Complete - VMware Horizon View 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 Upgrade

This completes the installation! Everything should now be upgraded to VMware Horizon View 7.0.1 In this simple 1 server setup.
