Install VMware Tools on Ubuntu via Command Line

Insert VMware Tools Installer

sudo mkdir /mnt/cdrom

sudo mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

tar xzvf /mnt/cdrom/VMwareTools-x.x.x-xxxx.tar.gz -C /tmp/

cd /tmp/vmware-tools-distrib/

sudo ./

Accept the default options, however I would recommend enabling the ‘VMware Automatic Kernel Modules’ option as If you update your kernel it will break the VMware Tools install If this is not enabled.

Reboot the machine after installing VMware Tools using the below command –

sudo reboot
